Does anyone know a loan company who DON'T use Experian?!!

I have a £550 debt to British Gas registered on my Experian record. I haven't got the cash to get rid of it and they've defaulted me. My Equifax record is perfect, as is Call Credit. Are there any companies that DEFINITELY DON'T use Experian that I could borrow money from to clear the £550 with British Gas and therefore clear my credit problem completely?

Any help anyone can give would be appreciated. I have already seen the 'Who uses Who' table and checked three companies that are listed as using Equifax, but they all actually use Experian - Intelligent Finance, Lombard and Sainsburys.

Confused!!!

If you have been defaulted then paying it will not clear your record but the debt will be marked as settled. This has a lesser impact than an unsettled default but will still knock your credit rating down quite a bit.

  • Posts like this worry me. You have an outstanding debt, which you can't pay, and you want to take on more debt? An outstanding gas bill for £550 sounds like about one year's supply, which suggests you've not paid them for a year.

tjb - you sound like you're having difficulty managing your finances. If so, then more debt will almost certainly not help and, more likely, will give you even more problems.

If you would like help/advice, post more about your situation either here or on the Debt-Free Wannabe Board. Have a browse on that Board to see how others have benefitted.

  • Phone British Gas and offer monthly payments of £50 and it will be clear in 11 months.

I can't see you getting a loan for such a small amount over longer than 12 months anyway. Most likely for less than £1000 you would be looking at an overdraft.

Even Provident who I work for would be £16.50 a week or £66 a month so save yourself the interest.

Look at it this way, you already owe British Gas the money so they are likely to accept a repayment proposal.
    I have a cunning plan!

Hi I know there are other replies regarding the best way to solve this problem but came across this and thought I would let you see link anyway to help you make you make your decision, ok tried to post the link but didn't work it is on the money saving website if you go into the credit card section and select top subject (credit card newbies guide) under which card is right for me is an option to click for credit rating article, about half way down this is a purple box which says See a full list of which Credit Reference Agency each provider uses.

Sorry I had to write it out if anyone can tell me how to post link to another section of this site it would be much appreciated!
