last of christmas season stock

Options
Hi everyone, i've noticed that shops are starting to remove whats left of their christmas season stock. Does anyone know what actually happens to all this stuff? The likes of Wilkinson and Tesco's must have millions of pounds worth of stock from the christmas season lying around. If it's removed from the shop floor but in the store warehouse do we as customers have any right to it at all?
Many thanks for your thoughts.

Yes I was confused by this as well.

Shops offer to sell and you offer to buy. if they don't want to sell you something then they don't have to.
  • Why have you posted this in grabbit forum??
  • I don't think the likes of wilkinson have any left as they reduce it all down to 10p in a final, final sale. Any odd scraps they have remaining I suppose either gets offered to staff or mor probably, thrown in th bin.

I would imagine with the big retailers that it the same story.
  • i used to be a retail manager and often there is fair amounts of stuff left over, it can go in and out of sales for a few years but after a time the codes for the item are removed from the system and a list of old codes get sent to store, anything on the list is destroyed. It sounds terrible but after this time the only items left are usually defective/damaged. Sometimes stores are allowed to offer the items on an extremely reduced price to its staff.

... oh and another one is charity. When countries have major disasters if the leftover product might be of use it sometimes gets sent off.

mimidaler - I'm glad that some items can be given to charity. It's such a waste to destroy things; even if they're defective surely they could be fixed.

A lot of retailer donate to 'newlife' which is a charity based in cannock i think. you can go there and buy faulty items and customer returns that have been donated.
    :T
  • most of the time they cant, although it is a bit soul destroying to have to cut items up so they cant be fished out of the bin.

I get what op is saying about giving you chance to buy the items all up as well. i wouldnt really call it a 'right' for the people working in the shop sale time is double work for the same pay basically, its much harder to organise and tends to look messy the image of a shop would go down if there was always a sale rack, so for shops where image is important they would end up losing sales. Also its about space, if you only have 15 bays, youre not going to make as much money if you use 2 of them to stock items youre breaking even or making a loss on than if you fill it with up to date more expensive but competitively priced items. Retail is a bsiness after all.
