Hello everyone . Welcome to the weekly spend challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x

Good luck everyone.

    Afternoon budgeteers

I was green for last week. I am going to go for £60 again this week and we will see how the week goes before trying to reduce it the week after.

Results and pledges from last week's thread have been added to the first post. Let me know any others and I will update these.

If there are any newbies or lurkers out there feel free to join in. Just me know what your budget for the week is and I will add you to the list.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  • Hello everone, thanks for starting us off again Pointy.

It's a big, big red for me again:(. £21.40 already spent plus £34.40 @ Mr A**i yesterday. Other spends have been £1.10 & £2.10 for lunches Thurs & Friday and had to get cat litter today @ £12.06: total £71.06.

Not sure if I need to try a new strategy on how I do this! (My only non-essential spends have been the 2 lunches)!

Anyway, will try harder next week..... I do need cat food (didn't have the size bag I wanted today) which is £15-£16, shouldn't need a lot of shopping, have enough for all lunches, hopefully dog food will last for another week....mmmmm try for £45.

Well done to everyone who was green (or better)!

Me please! £15 for the week, forgot to 'register' last week but managed to stay within my £15 so happy about that, lets just see what this week brings, Ive managed to find some cheaper hay for the horses so should be saving at least £10 a week on my feed bill from now on, cant wait for the grass to grow and the nags not to need hay!

Hi all. I'm going to sit out this week, as I'm working away in Germany, and its just too complicated to work out what I have spent, minus what I can claim in expenses, then convert it all from euros to pounds.

I'll join in again in a week's time if thats ok with everyone.
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

  • Hello Pointy and all!

I'm been off challenge for a while (that's an understatement! :rotfl: ) but I'd like to join you again for this week. I'd like to pledge £30 please! I have some dry cleaning to collect and I've made vague plans (ie. uncosted!) with friend I haven't seen in a while and is in need of some TLC.

Catch up later in the week then.

    Hi all

Could you put me down again for £35 this week. I didn't keep proper records last week so will write it off as red and start again.

    Thanks

  • Hi everyone!

Welcome back to the thread Casper & KarmaChi!

Keep your head up Lily and don't worry about being red last week - it can take a while to get into a rhythm and find your ideal figure to pledge in this challenge - at least you're aware where your pennies are being spent - which is half the battle! ;)

See you next week Karb - enjoy Germany!

As for me - I came in green last week with a spend of £43.47 out of a pledged £45! Woohoo!

This week I'll pledge £50 - tomorrow I have a food shop to do and I'll also sort out my mobile; fingers crossed I won't have any more spends during the week fingers_crossed.gif. Thanks as always Pointy for keeping the thread going! :)

    Have a good week everyone!
