All of which will be so much more appreciated, than when one simply went out and bought , in the heady days of credit-mongering?

and whats even better is knowing that next month when the car tax comes due, I have the money set aside, so its not going to be a problem!

  • i do the 2 accounts thing awell, my wage goes in one, i add up all the direct debits and standing orders and only leave that total in that account all the rest goes in the other one (my spends account) and i use this for food, petrol, dog stuff i now this is the money i can spent and that i cant touch the other account no matter what. and when my spends account is empty its empty, i do a huge shop on payday and fill both cars up so i know we wont be stranded or starved. but i dont budget for things like car tax, mot, vet billsmect i just worry about those as and when

I use QUICKEN 2010, I find it brilliant, it has all my outgoings and incomes for months ahead and I know exactly where every penny is going/goes.

Where did you get this from? I used to run quicken years ago, and have not been able to get an up to date version that runs on Windows 7. Thank you. :)

I use an excel spreadsheet, has all the outgoings in it, I then check the bank account every morning and adjust it, if I go out shopping then I put that on when I get home.

I know where I am down to the last penny, sometimes it literally is a case of 21p left in the account 'til the next day when dh's wages go in! but at least I know that is the case.

I also watch the food shop and spend a lot less than I used to, and am trying to get that down further as well.
