Lamb Curry

Bought some lamb for a curry on the way home as I have a load of CurryQueens curry base in the freezer. However I cant find any lamb curry recipes. Would it be ok to follow a chicken one instead?

I was thinking of trying the Butter Chicken recipe but without the marinade as I did this one the weekend with chicken and it was still nice without the marinade.

Or does lamb need its own special sauce?

TIA

    Hi HappyIdiotTalk,

Lamb works just as well with Curry Queen's sauce as chicken.......it will be lovely! There are some good lamb recipes on this website that use a very similar basic sauce to Curry Queen's.

Thanks Pink, I'll have a sneaky peek at that website tomorrow at work. We've just had a  powercut  meaning I had to pop out for chips as the family were chomping at the bit to be fed, so no curry tonight! Rats!

easy, get some curry paste to your taste in tescos or other supermarket.

fry meat to seal it, set aside then gently saute some onions in same pan with butter, add 2 dessert spoons of curry paste, 1/2 tins tomatoes depending on how much lamb, stir and add meat, cover and simmer until meat tender...........you can of course add more paste to make hotter.

be aware lamb may be a bit fattier than chicken.
Can I recommend spicy lamb skewers. Made it the other night. yellow label lamb shoulder, I carefully cut off the meat and chucked the fat, put it in a dish, made up a marinade of yellow label chillis, tomato puree and water. add chilli powder or paste to falvour and leave at least over night. put on metal skewers, grill for about 15 minutes, and put in pitta bread.
Just like your local kebab shop, except you don't have to wait as long before you eat it, theres less danger of getting in a fight, and it can be eaten while sober, cos it tastes great.

    Most humourous!

Kebab sounds nice. I never liked them until I tried a proper one in Kos about 14 years ago. It was superb. It was only a small thing and made with a soft flat bread round rather than pitta and was utterly delicious! The sad thing is I only had two (second one right after the first), and I've not been back or seen one like it since. It never crossed my mind to try and make my own. But I might search out a recipe for them. Or even just for the bread which was delish!

PS I started this post on Friday at work, but must have forgotten to post it, just found it this morning! :rotfl:

  • Hubby was very impressed with my first slow cooker lamb curry so thought i would post - i used neck fillets but am sure any cut would be fine in the SC:D

    2 onions
    3 garlic cloves
    2 red chillis
    1 tbsp ginger
1 tbsp turmeric (i didnt have this at the time and was fine without it)
    1.5 tbsp garam masala
    1.5 tbsp ground cumin
    1 tbs chilli
    1 tin tomatoes
    2 neck filletts

this was too nippy for me because of the fresh chillis, next time i will add just the dried chilli

i cooked the lamb for a bit and drained of the fat in the wok i added all the onions and spices and coated the lamb then put in SC with the chopped tomatoes and voila - i did add a wee bit of cornflour to thicken the sauce but depends the conisistency that you like

Hubby thought this was the most like an authentic inidan dish i had made and no shop bought sauces so i was chuffed:j

I bought some cheap lamb last night at mr S. Some of it is now in the slow cooker as a cassorole but i really fancy doing a cheap easy lamb curry from scratch. I have a few various herbs, spices and garlic.

Any one got any easy recipes please :D.

    Thanks

    Hi rigsby,

There is an easy lamb curry recipe in this thread:

    Lamb Curry

Or have a look through the Curry Night thread as all the chicken recipes there can be easily adapted to use lamb.

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the recipes together.

More of a morocan style lamb curry than indian, but this is what I use when I make it,

    1lb diced mutton
    2 large onions
a can of chopped or plum tomatos
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
couple of table spoons of tomato puree

1 heaped teaspoon each of cumin, corriander, ginger, cinnamon, and chilli powder.Salt pepper and a couple of bay leaves. and some lemon juice (if I've got it)

Fry the mutton with the onions, garlic and spices until brown, then add the tomatos and lemon juice and water if needed. Then depending on how soon I want it ready I either keep it in the frying pan (quick) or transfer it to a cassarole dish and put in oven on low heat for a couple of hours. It generally works better in the oven, especially if the mutton is as bit tough, might not be a problem with lamb.

If I've got any spare I also add diced apple, raisins or chopped dried apricots.
