    Welcome

You can always go down the surveys/quidco type route, if doesn't make a fortue by any stretch of the imagination, but it all adds up and it would also occupy you so you would be less inclined to want to go out and spend. They are paid by vouchers (which can be sold on email) or occasionally cheque or Paypal so wouldn't show up in your bank statements as earnings.

Try cutting back on your regular expenditure as well, utilities etc this can save you more money (even make you money if you use sites like quidco) so you have even extra at the end of the month to save/spend on diving.

You say you have a huge DVD collection, do you really need that many, how many have you watched and not liked so never likely to watch again, can you flog them???

Thanks for that - i'll look into them, as like you say, it all adds up. I have thought about the DVD collection getting raided, but in that respect I have hit a stone wall. I am really picky about what DVD's I buy and I always wait until they come down before I get them from play or some similar discounted site. As I only buy films I love, I tend to have none that I could part with (unless it was life or death debts). And I am geeky enough to watch films over and over and enjoy them loads each time. I must have seen point break a bazillion times!

I would love to help but am not that sort of copper. I am the sort that turns up when you are getting beaten up and steps in the way to take the punches and return the favour. But i'll keep my eyes open!!!

You could make money from books on Amazon, can also get rid of any Cd,s, DVD,s, Video's etc. And it wouldn't really be paid work, as you are selling your own stuff. Unless you get addicted like many have on here, and start actively hunting for books to sell!
Is a great thread on here to get you started.
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

  • Ok. And so the battle commences.

Today I paid my bills and did what needed to be done on the stuff that had to be spent. No escaping those.

I moved ALL my direct debits to an account that has been doing nothing for ages and this means that they will come out of a different account than my "free to spend" money. I can't believe I never thought of this myself, but then again, if I was a financial genius I wouldn't be in the mire would I?

I cancelled my unused gym membership - and found that when I signed up I had to pay twice and this would cover the last month's fee when I left. I had forgotten about this and it was a bonus that I didn't have to pay another £35. Cha-ching!!

I have started emptying small change etc into a little pot. Will see how that goes over the next month....

Made a £50 withdrawal from the ATM. Most has gone on stuff like haircuts and stuff, but that's my tough luck:cool: As I am living the frugal life this won't be a drama as I don't need to spend money when I am lying on a couch watching films we already own.

Also.......looked into doing medical trials for the money. I have no issue with doing these as my job is 100 times more dangersous than a sleep or drugs study and the rewards are pretty exciting(financially)......so I have filled in the form, and arranged a trial starting next week. The money will be nice if I get accepted (I'll have to hide the third eye from the examining doctor though).

I also chased up a slow payer from Ebay so I'll have £106 to transfer soon as well. All helps!!

Having spoken to the GF about all this war on debt, she joined in and cut up all her unuse but active CC's. All temptation. All gone!!! She has also paid off some hangers on in the store credit department and is making massive overpayments on the last CC. Looks like being out of debt will do us all favours!!

with regards to your writing - go to mediauk.com and see if they have any scuba specific publications, write one artical and send it off to all of them, stating that their competitors have been included (cc them in the letter) try and negotiate a regular slot of some form. May be worth a try, and if you email them its free!
