  • You may well want to leave the warts mention on there; there's a link between exposure to the HPV virus and cervical cancer, and they will need to know this so that they can call you for more frequent smear tests.

  • I think everyone should know that your Medical Records will soon be open for 100,000's more administrators and civil servants to read when they are all uploaded centrally this month, without telling anyone before it happens !!!

The DoH are assuming a consent to do this, so you have to actually write to prevent this and ask that "your" medical records stay at your Doctor's only, as they have been held confidentially and protected for years already.

If you value your medical confidentiality, I suggest you and your family members opt-out ASAP - visit www.thebigoptout.org for more info. and a template letter you can use - I have used this at my Doctors with no problems at all, but it seems clear some other Medical Practices have already uploaded ALL their records already and everywhere is planning to do this by the end of February, so be quick !

These records will also be used to check "performance management" targets of GPs ,Nurses etc. and of course if they wish they can see if their neighbours/friends/relatives have HIV, depression, abuse since childhood etc, etc.

In short, there are simply not sufficient safeguards in place and access by non-medical people is also widespread and unaccountable compared to our medical colleagues in Practice.

The Sun and the News of the World are going to love all those juicy secrets they can bribe non-professionals to get :(

Anyone else concerned about how quietly this is being done?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, i hadnt heard anyhting about it until now

Im shocked that they can do this, I have just printed of the template to send to my docs 1st thing in the morning, When i was younger i led a colourful life (ahem) and made some bad decisions and i cant believe all those people will be able to see whats on my file!!!!

    So thankyou again

I had something on my records which was deff an error of fact,i still don't know if its been removed, even my doctor at the time agreed with me
Ring your practice manager and have a chat about the situation.

If the practice agree that itr is an error, they can excise it. If they are doubtful / do not agree, you can ask for a note of your objection to be appended.

What you need to know is that you cannot insist on something being removed if it is not a clear mis statement of fact - ie was admitted to hospital in May with a broken ankle rather than hospital in June with appedicitis. So if it is a diagnosis of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia (sorry to jump to this, but it is usually diagnosis of that patients refuse to accept) or something similar all that can be done is to append a note disagreeing with it.
