Lloyds TSB basic bank account

Due to shockingly bad credit rating i have a basic bank account with TSB. My debts are now slowly being paid off and manage my money well with a small emergency fund in an ISA.
Anyway my only gripe with the tsb one is that you can only use tsb cash machines.I didn't know this though when i applied for it. I have had this account for over 2 years and have managed it well. Do Lloyds upgrade these accounts to current accounts if you ask? I wouldn't want an overdraft, cheque book or credit card etc ever again, but would like to be able to access my own cash more easily. If turned down is that a negative left on my already fragile credit score?
Anyone has any idea/experience of this? Thanks

Not sure about Lloyds, but with the basic cash card account at Barclays, you can either have an ATM card or a visa debit. My advice would be to go into Lloyds and ask if they can upgrade your card to a visa debit (or equivalent), rather than upgrading your account as this will leave a mark on your credit file. my husband has one of these. they are a visa debit card but its ridiculous that they can only be used in a lloyds cash machine.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

They may well upgrade you to a current account but I think that most do offer overdraft facilities, something which you obviously do not want.
There are plenty of other basic accounts out there, I have one with NatWest, the visa card can be used in all cash machines. The Co-op basic account also appears to be highly recommended on here. If TSB doesn't suit you, then change your account."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
I had a cash account (what you've described) and a classic account (without an o/d etc, but I wanted a cheque book for sending token payments - accounts opened at start of DMP). But following a relationship breakup I got custody of the cash account
But from what I understand, the fact of having a cash account at Lloyds means you won't get a classic, as you're effectively classed as poor credit.
When I had both, someone from Lloyds advised me to close the cash account and after a while get another classic account if I wanted 2 of them.

My OH has one of these accounts, despite 5 years of 'good behaviour' they are always unwilling to change it to a normal account and say come back in 6 months time! (he has tried 4 times!) However he can get money out at any post office using it so you should be able to use yours at a post office too, hope this helpsMember 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4
