So let me get this clear in my head...

    The repayments are too high...

So you wish to borrow more, paying more for it. Uh?

You don't work at the treasury, do you? :rotfl:

Well, it was something to do with (being in) Labour :D

I still can't get my head around:
    1. Why someone would complain about the interest rate on a loan that was found to be completely acceptable at the time it was taken out
    2. Why a life-changing decision is made to bring a child into the world and finances aren't properly thought through before that decision is taken
    3. Why someone would look for someone else to blame for their financial situation which is caused by their own lifestyle choice
    4. Why someone not happy with their financial situation would look to stretch themselves even further and introduce more stress/concerns

    Maybe I'm missing something here...

All the worrying in the world won't change anything...so breathe:beer:
  • Wow I am shocked by the amount having to be repaid. I took a loan out at the start of my job (2008) for £8000 over five years and the interest was £1700 so paid back £9700. I settled early so actually paid back less.

It all depends on your credit rating. If you have a poor rating then you're deemed a higher risk and the loan costs more. Have a good rating then you get a better rate.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Your GF borrowed money and was happy with the rates.

Your GF opened a savings account and was happy to do so.

Your GF chose to have a baby.

Hopefully no one held a gun to her head.

If GF is old enough to make such financial decisions then she should have been old enough to also realise the implications of pregnancy related absence from work.

Lesson - it's her life to manage as an adult, not the bank's responsibility to change contractual arrangements to suit a customer's family planning decisions.
    :hello:

That's the thing, when I applied all I had ever had was a mobile phone contract, never had any credit cards or other loans. Maybe I was just lucky.
