Home made jewelery/animals in pearls with nylon strings?

Hiya fellow MSErs... I used to make lots of animals or jewelery with little plasticky pearls and nylon strings (mostly fishing strings) when i was 16 and people really loved them. I thought I could go back to creating some, you know personalised gift... No one else would get the same.

Unfortunately, I can't find anything similar anywhere. Where could I buy the pearls and where can i find the patterns?

My daughter does quite a lot of beading and she finds the jewellery sections of the local Charity Shops a good source of cheap beads.
