paying self assessment from your HMRC account

Options
Morning,

I've just submitted my self assessment tax return.
The amount in my HMRC account (i.e. the two payments I made on it last year) covers my calculation for 2009-10 and also the first of my payments for 2010-11 (I reduced payments on this year due to a reduction in self-employment income).

Thus I don't need to make any additional payments. But do I have to do anything to action the payments from the account, I'm particularly concerned about the 1st of the 2010-11 payments. I can't see anything that will allow me to do this and I'm hoping that it will all be done automatically.

TIA

You do not have to do anything.

Log back into your account in a couple of days and the latest statement should have been updated to confirm the current position.

I didn't quite understand your question, but it worries me that you seem to expect your HMRC account to automatically action payments. Have you set up a direct debit for them to collect payments? Otherwise, all the online account does is tell you how much you need to pay, and you need to make sure that this payment is made on time.

Edited to say - I realise I missed the fact that you have already paid enough to HMRC to cover the January 2011 payment, so you don't have to arrange another payment. Sorry!

........ and it's confused by the fact the payments don't join in until the Return submission has mated up with the accounting data - which is held offline to the online! :p
