It is 8 days, including weekends and scheduled days off.

My hubby recently had a week off work and he was really unwell with flu. He has asthma so anything like flu or even a bad cold knocks him back far more than it does for otherwise healthy people so he can't afford to take chances. (Although he won't have his flu jab!!). On the second Friday which was day eight including Saturday and Sunday, he got an e-mail from his boss telling him he would have to have a sick note. I went completely mad and with some prompting from me hubby asked his boss which doctor did he think he could see for flu and was the firm going to pay for the sick note. Even if he wanted a note, the first opportunity he could have gone to the doctor because of the appointments system was Monday evening by which time he was fit enough for work anyway.

You can fill in a self certification form for sickness up to 8 days. Your payroll dept should be able to give you one if needed.
Here I go again on my own....

ive had the flu jab this yr but i also got the flu, seems like a new strain of flu..had it for two weeks better for one week then got it again the past week,, my doctor will talk to you over the phone but there is nothing they can give you for flu you have to rest but if you need a certificate he will issue you one but you will have to go in and see him before he would issue you a second..
