in Cutting tax
Hi,
Need to fill out my P87 form for business mileage soonish, but 2 simple questions:
1. what is the farthest back i can claim? i have data to FY2004/2005, but do not have P60s this far back...
2. Do i need to use old forms? or can i just use the current ones for past years?
thanks!
Chris

A friend of mine went back at least 4 years.
My advice would be to give your tax office a call. They are very helpful when you finally get through to someone0 -
They will pay without P60s.
You can use the same form for each year, you put the tax year at the top of the form.
You need to get the claim in before 31 January for 2004/05 as that's the deadline for that tax year.0 -

checking my numbers, i actually only have 2005/06 for earliest stuff, so that's cool

I found out last year about the P87 form, phoned the tax office and was told I could reclaim back to a max of 6 years.
filled out the forms and sent off the details at end of Apr '10.
Phoned them at start of Dec '10, and they were still working on it
Got a letter through on Monday past for £4333
Spent nearly 3 days filling in the forms and getting all the info ready to post and then waited 9 months for the cheque - worth it in the end tho.0 -
Wow really... that's pretty shocking, but if i'm hoenst unsurprising..
Quick to take your cash slow to give it back, no change to the norm really
I have now filled out my forms, but was going to wait for the current tax year to end before getting them off.. thinking now i might send them in two batches!
In addition, I was thinking last night do I need to send some level of 'proof' along with my claim? perhaps a P60, or expense claims submitted via my office?
Thanks guys0
