perDormire mattress - anyone any experience?

Hi,
I've been trying out mattresses today and quite fancy a perDormire mattress but can't find any reviews anywhere. Anyone tried one of these?

They used to be imported by General Traders who I think went "bust". All vaccum packed rolled matts with poor reflex foam underneath and memory on top. Very dead feel to the mattresses.

Maybe better going for a spring and foam combo.

  • I have heard that perDormire mattresses are really poor quailty. I have just bought a Relaxsan memory foam mattress. I heard they are an Italian firm that invented the original vacuum packed mattresses that still retain their shape, and as they are such excellent quality they last for years. Mine is very comfortable, and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Their website is relaxsanmagniflex.com

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but what you have heard about perDormire is exactly what I have heard about Relaxan.

What you need to remember is that vacuum packing and rolling up mattresses puts stress on the foam, which causes permenant damage. This is why good quality foam mattresses don't come vacuum packed.
  • I can't comment on the long term affects but for me, a girl on her own, I found that vacuum packing was the perfect solution for me. It was so easy to carry out the shop, so i didn't have to wait for delivery. Then when i got it home it was simple to unpack and by the time i was ready for bed it was back to its perfect shape.

Besides, vacuum packing is meant to be a lot better for the environment as its easy to transport so less co2 emmisions, something we should all think a little bit more about nowadays.

I can fully understand the convenience factor if you need a mattress in a hurry, although most people do know in advance that they will need a mattress.

As far as the environment goes, I'm not an expert on carbon footprints, but I would have thought that a UK made mattress containing steel springs (probably made mainly from recycled steel) would have a better carbon footprint than a mattress made from a block of polyurathane foam that is imported from Italy. Especially when the life of the foam mattress is likely to be far shorter, and therefore will need replacingfar more often. Then there is also the fact that most of a sprung mattress is recycleable (i'm not sure if polyurathane is). Anyway like I said, I'm no expert on carbon footprints, but it just goes to show that there is far more to take into account than just the hype that the manufacturers use about transport.

50mm of 55kg per m3 Visco Elastic memory foam on top of a high density Reflex foam core. This is then encased in a luxury damask with hypo allergenic qualities, vacuum and roll packed for ease of delivery.
    Conforms to BS 7177.

    Hi Pinky.

That doesn't mean I like them. In fact I've made it very clear that I hate them, and advise strongly against them.

That's like a greengrocer not selling cabbage because he doesn't like them. Some people do, and it fits in with their budget. And they aren't full of useless gimmicks like some of the products I refuse to sell.
