Could I get out of paying this charge?

We have 2 mortgages with nationwide. Just a temporary thing-we bought a new house before ours had sold.
Just had the annual statements through and the redemption figure includes an early repayment charge-fair enough.
However it says this doesn't apply if you're moving to another NW product, which we kind of are, the newer mortgage.
Do you think there's any argument there? It's a hefty £1300.
I think not, but thought it couldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks :)

Suggest you ask the NW if your circumstances fit the criteria.

Guy in local branch said not when we took them out, but it does seem a bit unfair. If we'd moved in the conventional way, we wouldn't have to pay it, only because we had the overlap.
  • Personally, I'd write to them stating that the charge doesn't apply because you took out the other product and give them the details of it. If they decide to make a issue of it, raise a complaint. Worst that can happen is you delay paying it for a bit.

You are not moving to another Nationwide product, you have taken out a seperate contract.

Charges will apply, although it will cost you the price of a stamp to write to them. They may offer a gesture of goodwill but dont bank on it
