How to overpay?

I have an HSBC tracker mortgage and want to make some overpayments. Is it as simple as just sending money to the account number and sort code on my mortgage statement?

My wife phoned them up last night and they said I couldnt do this, someone special has to be set up, but the mortgage dept was closed last night. I dont see how anything special is needed

Any thoughts?

  • Tricky,
Phone the bank's mortgage arm, I did this when setting up my overpayments with Nationwde. They gave me the sort code and account number- then the reference was the mortgage number that I wanted to overpay. Check your mortgage paperwork, there is always a number on it somewhere.

I regularly make overpayments on my HSBC tracker.

All I do to create or amend is to email them via their messages facility after I've logged in.
Never had any trouble making overpayments of any amount
