Hi there, I rang the abbatoire and apparently EEC regs mean that the kit to do it 'properly' is too expensive :( Has anyone seen any other suppliers? Is there any at your local chinese supermarket?

Thanks in advance for any ideas :)

  • Yes, I am a strange vegan for knowing this but you can get dried pigs blood rather than fresh. Selling fresh blood to consumers takes a huge amount of red tape for the abbatoirs/butchers but the dried is what most butchers tend to use apparently.

You can get huge bags of dried stuff from a Scobies butchers supply place: http://www.scobiesdirect.com/Products.asp?sMethod=Search&txtCriteria=blood

Or smaller 1kg bags here: http://www.weschenfelder.co.uk/929Dried_Dutch_Pigs_Blood_1kg

    HTH!

ok so it seems that that would be enough for 300kilos of black pudding and it has a use by date of 24 months. We couldn't eat that much!:D

Would any other south wales based OldStylers like to join in a bulk buy?

  • What about the 1kg bag?
  • If dried is what butchers use, then might a local butcher sell you a small amount?

I should really be sensible and try that one, but the massive bag just seems SUCH better value? Maybe I ought to start small though.... The boys might hate it....

You can buy 10kg from sausagemaking.org but at £30it's more expensive than the other links given.

Have you checked the freezer in your Chinese supermarket? I think they might have some in Wai Yee Hong (the big one in Bristol).
