Taxed at 40% after job change and 45day break

So then, got in touch with the Payroll team and they never got my P45. Now busy chasing the guys who took my P45 on induction day to find out where they sent it.
As I dont have a lot of hope in finding it (and nor does payroll), I have filled in my P46 form so I get off the D0 M1 tax code.
My question - Will a tax code given on basis on my P46 rectify the high tax cuts and adjust it over Feb and March payslips?
I ask because (once again) I did not work for 40days before starting and my previous company encashed my leave in November which resulted in amazing tax cuts as well. So there's quite a bit I must get back and I wonder if I this will happen without having to claim for it once the P60 arrives
Cheers

The P46 should result in you being put on the emergency code 647L on a month 1 basis. This will mean the correct tax being taken on a month by month basis but no adjustment for past months. You could try contacting the tax office after a couple of weeks but at this point in the tax year I think you are unlikely to get your code sorted in time. If this is the case and you have been overtaxed you will need to reclaim it when you have your P60.0
