Hard cake?

Hi all,
Just after a bit of reassurance... I baked a cake last night for a friends bday dinner this evening. Planning on icing it tonight, I wrapped it in cling film and popped it in the fridge, thinking it would keep it nice and fresh...
When I looked at it this morning it was rock hard! I'm hoping it's just because it was cold so I've taken it out the fridge and left it on the side ready to ice when I get home... Can anyone reassure me that it won't still be rock hard when I get home??
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm not sure whether you can rescue this, perhaps splash with some water and refresh it in the oven on a low-ish heat for a couple of mins? Someone else will probably correct this - sorry if I'm wrong!!!!
But don't put the cake in the fridge, it's guaranteed to make it go hard, put it in an air tight container next time, it will keep it fresh
Hope it works out0 -
Sponge cake doesn't like the fridge. If you can't rescue it I would warm it up and have with custard.0

Yes, an airtight container would have been better. I'd take it out the clingfilm asap btw. It will go soggy as warms up.Val.0
