Jimmys Sausgaes, 90% Free Range Pork

For anyone fussy about decent sausages, these were recommended to me and we tried them this evening and they are absolutely delicious, I normally buy Tesco Finest and think these are actually better.

Not sure if they are cheaper anywhere else?

  • I live about 30mins away from Jimmys Farm in Suffolk - I brought some from my local Tescos on the spur of the moment. I like to buy local food where possible.
Once i got home i looked online these are actually not made on Jimmys Farm, but made in Ireland, by a company which makes sausages for other supermarkets.
I was really disappointed, if the packaging says Jimmys Farm, i really think it should come from Jimmys Farm and not a factory in Ireland.

Whilst I know what you mean, surely there is a possibility that there is more than one 'Jimmy's Farm' in the country? :D
Not found anything about an Irish factory...according to the info on the Tesco's website that I can see, they actually do come from the farm you mentionned.

From a quick scan of the 'blurb' it reads as if the pork is from the pigs raised on Jimmy's Farm (and they're a heck of a lot cheaper than the sausages he sells in the farm shop which seem to average about £1 per sausage!) but on closer inspection, I don't think it is.

    Jimmy's Farm is in Suffolk
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Haha..you know what, I realized my mistake..was confused with the Essex pigs...:o, so went to check & edit...but you exposed me anyway. :rotfl:
  • Yes these are much cheaper than those brought from Jimmys Farm, but those sold at Jimmys Farm are made from pork from rare breds. So by buying from the farm you are supporting the conservation of the rare breds too.
All the packet says is that these sausages are made from pork from british free range pigs. So i guess the meat isn't from rare breds, or it would say otherwise.

I'm not allowed to post links but google: Finnebrogue jimmy's farm
Finnebrogue is the company who produce the sausages.

Hmmm, maybe, but must admit I personally don't have a problem with this. Perhaps the Irish firm were the only ones to give the right assurances with regard to meat percentages/content/skins etc? Also, processing on such a large scale as required to stock National supermarkets would probably have been beyond them.

The meat still comes from Jimmy's Farm & the profits will still be ploughed back so that the conservation of the rare breeds is still being supported, whether or not these sausages come from the rare breeds or not. It is likely though, with the increased revenue, that even if the rare breeds are not being used for the sausages now, they will probably be used in the future.

Actually this sudden mass production & supplying to a supermarket chain means that I actually now may give them a try. I normally don't buy from the supermarket, preferring locally produced Kent sausages ;), so surely all in all this has to be a good thing for them hasn't it?

Supplying enough pork to produce enough sausages to stock National Supermarkets is probably beyond them too.
