Tax offsets

Options
I know there are lots of little things that you can use to reduce your tax bills, eg having to wash your own uniform.

What I want to try and do is get some more on this thread to help people save money on tax.

Please be generous and put as much data on here as possible. If the likes of Wayne Rooney can avoid tax then so should all of us.

To be fair what Mr Rooney does is very clever and is tax avoidance rather than tax evasion so fair play to him.

The whole of the tax laws are way too complicated.

Is it not the same thing? I know there are ways to avoid tax, that is what I am looking to find out!!
  • Mr. Rooney also probably pays an accountant, who spends many years studying to know the correct answers to how to do it.
Phone HMRC - I hear they still give advice for free on this subject. will cost you goodness knows how much per minute though on the 0845 number........
Are you actually self employed? Or Employed? Different rules apply for different things so a question of "How do I minimise my tax position" is a bit vague whithout knowing any more info than that
Happy to help/ guide - but need to know more. No two tax payers are the same, IMHO
  • Ok in my position I am employed to work 100 x 12 hour days through a norwegian company. I do not work in Britain but I reside here. I get 35k a year salary plus 12% bonus.
  • Ok, so if you are employed, why are you filling in a tax return? Im confused
  • I have to fill in a tax return as i have rental income.
  • Ah ok I understand now

So, do you need to know about what is allowable as tax reducers in rental property then or are you ok with that side of things
