Struggling to find employment

Has anybody else been struggling to find employment too? I have had a few interviews over the last few months for IT related jobs but seemed to get pipped at the post by other candidates who have more experience and qualifications.
Applied for a temporary warehouse job and was told I have no experience and am over qualified with a background being in IT.
Applied as a call centre worker rejected at application stage due to being overqualified.
Struggling to make ends meet with young family to support too.

Yep! I've been job hunting since November, and have had 3 responses for jobs I have applied for. None have resulted in an interview yet.
Employers are becoming more specific about the person they want.0 -
Been jobhunting since August and still no job! No interviews no nothing!
Advice freely given is rarely taken except on MSE:cool: Dont shoot the messenger:)0 -
I am definitely struggling at the moment, I have been trying to find a suitable role since mid November. I am falling into two categories as I am over qualified for some things but not enough experience for others. Today I got told by an agency that I would be unlikely to be shortlisted by the client as I was older then what they were ideally looking for. Being just into my thirties I am some what surprised by this, as it wasn't as if it was an entry level/graduate job and did require a good level of experience!0

I think its alot tougher out there.
I was out of work 2 years ago and didnt have a problem finding another job then i left my job last feb and have been struggling ever since.
I have signed on then come off after a month, been with about 4 different agencies and not had much work .got with another agency just before christmas and was busy upto and the couple of weeks after now nothing .
One day the week before last, nothing last week and sofar nothing this week I've been on the job centre website about four times every day applied for a couple but dont hold much hope.
I must add the sort of work I'm looking for temping is only van driving but because theres so many people out of work and secondly most people can do it so theres alot of competition for even the low page stuff.
I have worked in double glazing for last 20 years but thats even worse now to get anything from it0 -
To the OP you may need to get your CV in the correct format for todays market and posted on the job boards and I went contracting as its easier to get then a permie role. Where are you based?0

Maybe make a career or write a book advising buyers on the pitfalls of double glazing salesmen and companies and how to protect your investment an make the contract work for the buyer.0 -

Tell me about it, my missus is thinking about going back to work early from maternity leave but funnily enough if we we're both out of work then at least we'd get help. We can't claim for a thing, apart from the usual child tax credits, I can't even claim for JSA due to partner being in a full time position.
Are you in the West Midlands btw? There's nowt about. I had some temporary driving work during the xmas period but it's all gone dead now, come May we're up **** street - and maybe even living on one!0 -

I worked for one of the nationals but not in sales started in fabrication then onto double glazing repairs etc0 -
Terry, can you not dumb down your CV if you are want to apply for a job where you are over qualified ?
You should be sending out a different CV for each job you apply for to reflect the skills to the job you are applying. That is of course if you have them for the relevent role.0 -

I am based in London and my CV was done with the assistance of an outplacement company after I got made redundant in my last IT related role. I did manage to find a job in another field but after 8 weeks I was forced to resign. Since then I have been invited to a few interviews but still no joy0
