Stains from old Sellotape

Options
In a charity shop today, I saw and fell in love with a set of 8 beautiful cut-work table napkins. They're clearly hand worked and made of a very fine lawn. They cost me the exhorbitant sum of 2 pounds.

However, where they were arranged in pretty shapes in a presentation box, and the pleats and folds held down with sellotape, there are several brown tape-residue marks.

Any ideas on the best way to attempt to remove the stains before laundering? I'm reluctant to just chuck them into the washing machine in case that 'sets' the stains. Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • Bicarb? That works on a lot of things but can't say I've come across that type of stain before; sorry! Good luck getting them clean.

I'd be inclined to try a cold soak first, then a spray of a stain remover plus a low temperature wash. You don't think they'll do as they are, so a gentle approach, gradually increasing in intensity is the answer! Hopefully they'll be fine - if not, well £2 not too big a loss! I truly hope it'll work !
Second thought--maybe try wiping with white spirit? That removes plaster marks from skin so might work?
