Can we 'find' our endowment?

My wife had an endowment mortgate with N&P about 14 years ago. N&P were then bought out by Abbey National.

At some point the endowment mortgage was changed to a repayment mortgage, and then we remortgaged to another repayment mortgage.

The question is what will have happened to the endowment policy? I know there wont have been a huge amount in it, but Im wondering if there is anyway to find out if it has any value at all?

We have since got out of the homeowners market and now rent.

There's a good chance that the endowment policy was surrendered when the mortgage was converted to repayment. As you say, the value of the policy might have been small - so if your wife did cash it in she won't necessarily remember.

She could try the Unclaimed Asset Register - but they charge a fee of £25 for looking for the policy.

I don't know whether N&P were tied to any particular product provider 14 years ago - if they were, then the policy was likely with that insurance company. Hopefully somebody will come along soon and tell you the answer to that. You could then write to that insurance company and ask.

Does your wife have any bank statements from the period? They'd show a premium payment and a reference, which would help.

You could also try a scattergun approach of writing to the big insurance companies - Standard Life, Pru, L&G etc - and seeing if you got lucky...
