Tumble dryer-worth the bells and whistles?

Arent all tumble dryers very dear to run? I've never owned one I prefer to hang the washing around my flat, I dread to think what it would cost me to run one.0

Its not that bad to run, although the one I have is v old, the ones I am looking at are approx 3.5kWH per load... I use it at the moment (winter) 2-3 times weekly, bed sheets and towels, maybe another.
If I bought a 7-8kg machine I would get away with once I reckon.
I do not have anywhere to dry king size duvet cover in the house if I cannot put on the line, so I like to have it for winter, barely gets used in summer

Have you though about getting a Dri Buddy? I've currently got an integrated washer/dryer and am thinking about getting one.
I looked at that, but for heavy cotton duvet covers I think I would prefer getting them dry in the tumbler-only 3x the dri-buddy and I don't think it would dry as thoroughly. If I only had a washer/dryer maybe as I found mine awful for drying, but I do think a seperate machine is a god send....0 -
I like the look of that Dr Buddy thing,I have a white knight sensor dry,,hardly ever use it due to the price of electricity,it takes up quite a lot of room in my wee kitchen..i realy should either use it more or give it away and get a dri buddy.
PS,I dont think my sensor dry part does anything,,mine has a timer, but it only switches off when it reaches the end of the time, even if the clothes are dry before the time is up...i think it reduces the temperature tho.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I've got a washer dryer and I've been thinking about the dri-buddi thing. My w/d is pretty good for drying, but if I have lots and lots of washing to do, I obviously can't wash more until it's finished drying. I do have a spin dryer which is a godsend for things which can't be tumble dried - takes most of the water out and they only need a little while on the clothes horse.
The only thing I would say about tumble dryers (or any other appliance, come to that) is that I wouldn't touch Hotpoint/Indesit/Creda ever again as their after-sales service is dismal - they tend to come in at the cheaper end of the market and you definitely get what you pay for with them, in my opinion."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

I always think it's something to do with the fact that things seem to have been built better a while ago - I had one of those proper vax machines, with the orange drum bit you drag around which was kindly given to me by my grandmother and I swear she bought it sometimes in the eighties! She gave it to us around 2001. After a couple of years, despite nothing being really wrong with it, I decided I wanted the shiny new flashy model and so we got rid of the old one and bought the new one. Lasted about three years, IIRC, and then it was 'uneconomical' to repair it. If we hadn't got rid of my grandmothers vax, the bloody thing would probably still be going strong today.
A very convoluted way of saying things used to be built better.............and I'm only 36!!
I know people will have had good experiences with hotpoint/creda/indesit/cannon et al and that people only tend to talk about bad experiences, but you couldn't pay me to put money in their pockets again, if that makes sense!

I understand where your coming from..im dreading having to buy a new washing machine when the time comes...doubt very much il hit 3rd time lucky and get another to last double figure years, the Candy is functioning properly, but theres a large piece of paintwork fell off the front, the whole machine looks more cream than original white and i can only get the door to shut by kicking it:rotfl:
But whilst it still washes and spins perfectly i will not be parting with it(might need to tart it up a bit with white(or cream)car paint or something tho;)Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
