Toothpaste problems

Options
Not sure if I have the right section of the forum here as it is not really a beauty thing but I couldn't seem to make it fit anywhere else.

My problems is that I hate toothpaste.

I love clean teeth and use toothpaste twice a day as you should but it makes me sick, it is worse in the morning with the first brush but even at night it leaves me gagging. I have tried waiting for 10- 30 minutes when getting up before brushing and also the same when going to bed but it does not help.

I have tried most of the major brands and the stores own replacements but they all seem to foam too much and taste just far to strong.
My dentist is not the best of help ( still sitting here with pain from a root canal 2 weeks after the op)

I do have sensitive teeth so try to use something that helps with that but as a none smoker I don't buy the really harsh types
anyway.

I really am running out of ideas now but I really can't cope with being sick every morning and feeling sick going to bed.

What can I do ? Any ideas or brands that I could try ?

Have you tried some of the ones in health food shops?

Some of these have less foaming agents in and are flavoured in different ways than the traditional mint.

Be a bit careful though, because several throw out the fluoride as well, and fluoride in toothpaste is one of the biggest reasons for the drop in tooth decay over the last 30 yrs.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I haven't actually which sounds rather silly I guess but in my defence we don't have health shops round my way..

I will check and see what I can get online and I will make sure I check the fluoride as that might become a problem when we move to Bulgaria as well.

    Thank you

Oh and while you are here, seeing as your sig would suggest you know what you are talking about. How long should I have pain on biting from a root canal that is not yet filled ?

  • If you find a solution please let us know - I suffer horribly from this but have to persevere - and if you do it and someone hears you, they never quite believe you that it is simply from brushing your teeth!

I don't really understand what you mean by "not yet filled".

Has a root canal filling proceedure been started but not finished yet? Often they can be tender until they are finished off - and even then they can be mildly uncomfortable for a few weeks afterwards.

It can depend on a lot of factors.

I use the sensitive toothpaste from Aldi in a pink tube - it is SLS free and so foams up less, it's cheap too! I find it doesn't make me gag and I have the same thing about teeth cleaning.

Euthamol toothpaste is fluoride free so no good to you if you want to prevent decay , it is also very abrasive so can easily wear tooth away.

Many people are sensitive to cinnamon flavourings in toothpaste... most of the childrens avoid this as they are fruit flavoured.

Most toothpastes other than sensodyne use sls as a foaming agent and again some people can be sensitive to this as well.

Dry brush , dont wet your brush with water and this may help with decrease foaming.

As to your root treatment, the reason dentists leave the tooth temporary dressed is to let it settle down before the final filling is placed. most will settle but depending on the tooth, the reason for the abcess and dentist 5 to 20% may not settle and may need to be taken out.

Euthamol was suggested to me before but I could not find any local, might try boots online or something like that cos if it works for you it has to be worth a look.
I do have an Aldi local so will get one of those as well and see what happens.

You are right Roshy, not one ever believes me about it being the toothpaste but it has been like that for years and I am getting sick and tired of it.

Toothsmith, I had the nerve removed 2 weeks ago but don't have the proper filling over it yet, it was just some kind of temp filling to make sure it did not get infected or anything like that. I am going back in a week for the real filling.
It just hurts when I bite things and I am getting sick to death of soup..lol

Ahh thanks for that, I hope it does settle down cos it is driving me nuts at the moment, but then saying that, if it is removed at least that problem will be over.

I will try dry brushing cos I don't do that. I tend to use water like it is going out of fashion. I don't want to wear anything away on my teeth as they are already sensitive to cold.
