24 hour finance

Options
Has anyone heard of 24 hour finance? I had a phone call today from them saying i have been approved for a loan of up to £10,000. I will get the money within 20 minutes if only i will pay the first payment of £165 through money gram. She sounded Indian but her name was susan lewis, at first i refused to believe her because she made it sound so easy to get that amount of loan when i know i have a bad credit record. She said that the company doesnt do any kind of credit search and that somebody will come round to my place to bring me the loan agreement after i deposited the money to money gram. She gave me a London address of their company 258 Belsize road london NW6 4BT contact number 02080999183/02088199766. I am very suspicious about this company as I was just reading some very similar threads about 48 hour finance, probably same people operating it. I did not pay them as I have not got any money but she said she will ring me again on my payday.;)

    LOL are you serious?

  • waterloo1, you already know the answer to your own question. It sounded too good to be true so you searched the web, found this forum and hoped that someone would comment that your suspicions were unfounded and that you should go for it. As with everything in life that's too good to be true - this particular confidence scam is too good to be true and you'd be well advised to steer well clear of it. :)
  • yes its true, i am thinking of reporting them to actionfraud. vulnerable people can actually fall for this kind of scam, if i had the money today i would have done it. I have decided to google the company name and i came across with a similar scam story about 48 hour finance, probably similar people operating it

The general advice would be for you to report the details you have about the company to the OFT's consumerdirect.gov.uk website/helpline and to put the phone down when they call again.

As far as your loan application goes, it's a far better idea to save 10%-20% of your wage each month and only ever buy big purchases when you have the money and can afford it. If you absolutely have to get a loan seek free, impartial advice from lenderscompared.org.uk (up to £500), loanpages.com (the full market) or seek out your local Credit Union at abcul.org (just credit unions).
  • thanks i will try and do that, hard though if you need the money straight away.

    Ah! There's the rub!

There actually isn't any money to be had. They are a brokerage, no guarantee of actually sourcing a loan even after paying the fee.

Really? Wouldn't it have occured to you that a person, especially with an foreign accent, asking for the first payment before you even receive the loan is 100% guaranteed to be a scam? Just think about it for a moment..............
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Sure I have read about this Susan Lewis and ads on gumtree. If I remember correctly there are a lot of scams involving this lot.
