EasiYo or electric yoghurt maker - a poll

I'm up to page 27 of the 'EasiYo' thread and I'm getting more and more confused :undecided

Should I get an EasiYo (bearing in mind that it's currently half price - £7) or a Lakeland electric yoghurt maker (£20) or another one entirely?

Which do you think is best?

I would get an easiyo because it's cheaper now and (I think) cheaper to boil a small amount of water than have the maker on for a few hours going on.
The chief argument against easiyo (as I understand it) is the cost of sachets, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to.

another vote for easi yo i rarely buy the sachets
  • I had an electric maker (from Freecycle) then got an Easiyo (also from Freecycle :money: ) compared the 2 and Freecyled-on the electric one :)

I never use sachets - just yogurt and UHT milk.

  • I've voted Easiyo. Never used any other system, but find the Easiyo so easy, and as already been said you don't even need to use the easiyo sachets.

I've had mine for donkeys years, and when I 1st got it I used it quite a bit, but then forgot about it until a few weeks ago - got it back out after getting some Apricot sachets at a really good price from QVC outlet shop. I have used 1 of the sachets, but made about 6 lots from that 1 starter so far. Cost wise if you make your own without the sachets it is dirt cheap - about 75p for 1 huge pot. I then add whatever I want to each serving - a bit of fruit, some honey or a bit of strawberry sauce - which makes it just like those muller yogs.

I have an Easiyo but have never used it without using a sachet. Do I use warm or cold milk, and how much starter should I use?

Thanks for any advice. I love the taste of easiyo but I do find it quite expensive to use the sachets all the time. It never dawned on me to try it using a starter! :o

This is the thread to look at (but go to the first page - that's just the page I'm on!): https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/717089

Thanks for all your replies so far :D

Cold/room temp UHT milk. 1 small pot LIVE yogurt :)

You can then freeze a small pot of this. I make my next batch when I'm down to the last potful of yogurt. Sometimes this tastes on the turn, so I use all the yogurt and start again with the pot in the freezer.
