Just as a side note, you might want to start keeping them separated while you aren't around to supervise. You might feel like a meanie but it will be in their best interests.
Also, I would be just letting them out unsupervised at 5/6 months, they are still babies so not terribly street/strange situation savvy and being cute will be very tempting for nicking!
If you're worried about mental stimulation, play with them more, buy lots of interactive games or check out google and youtube for cheap DIY toys that keep them entertained. Far better to give up a couple of hours of your time and have happy, healthy, safe kitties
