P800 from HMRC completely wrong

in Cutting tax
Hi,
Looking for a bit of advice.
I received a P800 from HMRC saying I owe them £4444 for the tax year 2007-2008.
The letter detailed that I made £34000 in that year which is way higher than what I actually earned and said I only paid £1600 in tax for that year.
Ive checked my P60 for that tax period it shows I paid £4545 in tax and my pay was £27000.
Called the tax office and they don't have an explanation and that I need to send them my P60.
Anyone else had this issue?
Regards
Rosco
