Self assessment form - request to cease filing?

in Cutting tax
Hi there
My husband began filing a self assessment form approx 6 years ago even though his only income was from FT employment so that he could claim the tax back on the difference the company paid him as a mileage expense and the amount HMRC say is the maximum you can claim. He was made redundant March 2009 so on his return for tax year ending 2010 (filed in July) he gave the details of the small amount of contribution based JSA received and a small amount of employed income. My accountant said they would probably write after filing that return to say he no longer had to file SA - however they didn't so come April 2011 he will have to file another return that only has on it an amount of employed income -
If he phoned HMRC & explained do you think they would remove the need to file SA? Or is it that automated that this will probably only be done after filing for tax year ending 2011?
Thanks!

If he is issued with the form in April, call HMRC and explain that he no longer meets the criteria (assuming he does not) and they will take himout of the system and capture a 'Nil Return'.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
