My other useless observation is that there is an old stone built house near Bainbridge in the Dales that I would expect to be listed, is definately in a National park and has a traditional stone roof.

I cannot see the DPA allowing solar collectors of any sort on the roof. The garden has some dozen solar water and electricity panels in it, arranged in neat arcs to face the SSE to SSW. I do not suppose the DPA can do anything about it, because they are theoretically moveable and people can do what they want in their gardens as long as it is not a construction.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

i have permission to pole across the neighbouring field from the nearest elec source. alas national park have told me they do not want overhead cable work.
to go underground it has to cross 2/3 roads dependant on route.
iv been told "highways " must do the road work and that is the expensive bit!
ditches along the road side make it difficult to lay cables too..
im stuck on whats like an island..... no wonder it was never connected years ago !!
the gas main luckily just goes from a to b down the road so im just a spur off.
i will look into the poss of gas lights tho...thankyou

re telephone... it took me 5 months to get connected cos the line goes to a pole on the edge of my property then goes underground along the road side
Ok alfie, what i would be asking the parks is if they allow BT to put telegraph poles up why arent they allowing the DNO/REC to install poles. And if BT's poles are existing (which has set a precedent - to allow wooden poles) why they arent allowing any more.
Have you asked your DNO (electricity distribution comapny) to supply you with plans of your location and surrounds showing the cables.
Also if you are thinking of solar panels, if your in a conservation area they might not allow.
i think in your situtation, it would be really worth your while to build some sort of relationship with someone in the Park who can help you out. if only discussing what they will allow you to do or not do.
