I know it is for a wedding, but if the bride and groom are really friends, then they will understand the huge financial committment that they are asking you to make given some rough circumstances.
If you do really want to go, why not put off the Uni course for a year instead? It is one year, that will give you time to get in a better position financially, and would make sense.
I really don't mean to be harsh, I know you are in a difficult position, but those are two whopping financial things that you are CHOOSING to do. Not being forced into, choosing.
You have nearly £15k of unsecured debt - what happens if you take that year off for education, and then cannot find a job at the end? Have you not seen the job market out there? Thousands of unemployed graduates, students clawing their way over each other to get any job at all, much less graduate entry. Reduce your debt first, spend a whole year throwing everything you can at it, and then you won't have such a stressful year and can enjoy it.
 I wish you luck,
Thank you so much for your frank response, we all need them from time to time.
I should have explained that I am on a one year contract at my current job (ends in Sept) and there is no guarantee that it will be extended. I haven't been accepted yet into uni, so I might have to postpone it for a year without it being my choice
Unfortunately the wedding is a family one, there is just no getting out of it. Especially as they came over for our wedding last year!
Need to think seriously about not going to uni. Its just I have agonised over the decision for so long and now I finally got the application in, seems like a step back to postpone. Though it would make life easier if I didn't have to have a part-time job as well as study . . . Food for thought!*Official DFW Nerd #1368 - Proud to be dealing with my debts*

Perhaps you really need to re-consider your priorities. If going to University will have an effect on the rest of your life - ie. earning potential, personal fulfilment etc - it seems that would be the course to take. Attending the wedding in Australia is a choice to spend what you could better use elsewhere. You obviously want to go but is that worth jeopardising your future?0

            Hi,
I've never posted on here before, and not sure if I've got my facts right, but never mind! Are uni fees set to go up next year? If they are, and you can afford to go this year, I wouldn't put it off! The only thing is that more people will be forgoing gap years to beat the increase, so places will be harder to secure!0
