How much weight can I lose in 3 weeks.

Options
Hi Guys,

I am going to a function in two weeks time, and although I have already lose one & a half stone, I need to lose two, or just over it to bring me down to somewhere between 15 and a half and 16 stone. At the moment, however, I am 18 stone on the button and want to shed a few lbs during the next two weeks.

I walk (very briskly) about 4 miles per day at least, have really learned to cut way, way down on my junk food intake, have been drinking loads and loads of ice cold water, and have a good bowl of Shredded Wheat each morning. I have also been working very hard in the gym.

My question to you is, how much do you think I can lose in the next couple of weeks, bearing in mind I do all of the above? I plan to go to the gym at least 3 or 4 times per week in each of these two weeks, as well, burning off 500-600 calories per visit.

Thanks in advance, guys.

A.

Roughly, you need a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose 1lb of body fat in a week.

Edit: it seems you're heading in the right direction anyway, so well done :) I'd say just stick to what you're doing and don't worry too much about hitting a certain weight for the function.

  • If it's weight you want to lose you should be going to the gym less often and not more. This because healthy, lean muscle-tissue weighs more than good old fatty flab. Oh, and you shouldn't be cutting down on junk-food, you should be cutting it out altogether. If you want to be reassured that you're losing the flab rely on a tape-measure rather than the scales.

Im guessing its your size you want to cut down on, rather than weight per se, therefore I would continue with the gym to burn off calories.

What have you been losing per week up to now? You'll probably continue.

The amounts above are correct, its 500 calories a day deficit to lose 1lb a week or 1000 calories a day deficit to lose 2lbs a week. Its not recommended that you lose more than that, but obviously you have a short term goal in mind.

My I make an assumption about something and Im sorry if Im wrong... I suspect that you have worked really hard with the weight loss so far, but in the back of your mind, you're worried about turning up at the function 'still fat', and you think that another half stone will suddenly make all the difference to your self esteem at that do.
If this is the case, then what you need to focus on, is that you have achieved an enormous amount so far, you are a success for what you have done already, you dont need to prove anything to anyone, this your life and your achievement, you are not in competition with anyone and should turn up, proud at what you have already done and positive about what you are still to achieve.

    If thats wrong, just disregard...

I use foodfocus.co.uk and caloriesperhour.com to work out my basic calorie requirments (you can add in other activities and exercises to calculate what you burn), which makes it easy to see exactly how much you need to cut down. With all your exercise and the weight you are, you are probably using more than 'average' calories per day, so to knock a 1000 off each day may not seem as daunting as it sounds, if is just for the next few weeks. So you could theoretically lose another half stone in the next 3 weeks I would say.

    Well done
  • Thanks, all !

BitterandTwisted: Would only be lying if I said I would and could cut it out altogether. I haven't eaten from the vending machine at work for works, whereas there were days where I would have maybe eaten 3 or 4 bars of chocolate and 2 packets of crisps in a single day ! My girlfriend makes me my lunch these days, and that is a big plus for me. I don't want to cut out altogether, or will risk the chances of binging, as it has happened before !!

I saw my folks for the first time since New Years Day today, and they saw a big difference in me. I had a personal trainer 3 years ago at Fitness First and she told me I should aim to be 16 stone. I felt my best when I was around 15st. 7lbs or so, so anywhere between those two weights and I will be absolutely delighted.

Again, thank you for your very kind words of encouragement, folks. :T:)

No it doesn't, it's just more dense.

It's the equivalent of saying that lead weighs more than feather - it doesn't, at all.
