I am a very very happy bunny :j :j :j
Thanks for the tips guys ..... guess what I got !!!!!
6 knitting needles, size 2 1/4, 2 x 9 (thought 1 was a 6:rolleyes: ), 10, 12 and one funny one with two ends but the are joint with some flexi plastic (I'm sure I'll be able to use it soon:D ) Cost = £1 ... ok, they were 10p each ... but was more than happy to hand over a quid.
1 bag of soft cream Mohair (100g)- 50p
1 bag mixed white/cream/pale yellow Nylon/Acrylic (150g) - 50p
1 bag deep red brushed Acrylic/Nylon (200g) - 65p
So, all that for £2.70:T :T
Will be going back to get the thinner size 4 and 5 needles soon and see if they have anymore wool!
Thanks again all

wow bargain! The needles which are joined together are circular needles. Depending on how long they are, they could be great for knitting your stockings or sacks - you just keep knitting round and round and round.... giving you a big (or not so big) tube - you could then just sew up the end and bravo a sock / hat / sack...
If they are long enough circular needles could be useful for the baby blanket too, because you can hold a really wide piece of knitting on them, unlike straight needles where you're limited to 12inches or whatever plus a little bit.
plenty of info on web re circular knitting and using circular needles for 'straight'/normal knitting.
I lurve circular needles because I HATE sewing up seams!!!0 -
Hi Ally
I've knitted my son his stocking this year (only learnt to knit in August jsu tfor this reason!) and now am knitting htem for friends children! I made up & refined my pattern, it knits the stocking all in one rather than 2 halves starting from the bottom of the foot & going upwards, here it is :
I use 100% acrylic double knitting & number 6 needles
Cast on 100 stitches (this seems a lot but remember you are going to fold the end result in half) & knit up approx 50 rows. Cast off 30 stitches, knit 40 & cast off the remaining 30. You should be left the middle 40 stitches on the needle & the ones each side hanging off. Knit up as many rows as you want it to be deep, I suggest about 70-90. Near when you are ready to finish switch to another colour wool (I like to use cream here) & either knit up 30 rows of rib or if you can't rib (which is knit one pearl one) just continue with the knit stitch in teh new colour. Knit this bit double the depth you want as you are going to fold it over to resemble to folded over top of a sock. I suggest about 20 rows here but judge by eye. Cast off & fold in half INSIDE OUT (whichever is the best side is usually the outside with me!). Sew along the outside seem & turn back out the correct way. Attach a big loop of ribbion very firmly inside the white part of the top, sew it down quite a long way. Before stitching the seem together I like to X stitch the childs name/initals on the stocking, however this can take a bit of practivce to get the spacing right so be patient with yourself if you do this.

Ebay often has wool in job lots, lots of small balls of different colours, ideal for toys or stripey scarves & blankets.
You could also try Freecycle for wool.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
