First direct mortgage

Do you need a first direct current account if you decide to take one of their mortgages, Is it true that they will only pay the mortgage from their own account, just wondering as I am not sure if this would put me off as I dont really want to swap my current account.

Yes but you don't have to use it as your main account.
Keep your current account and just transfer the mortgage amount to your new FD current account each month.
  • I moved my current account to First Direct and I must say that it was no hassle at all, they will also give you £100 for doing so. You can still keep your old current account if you wish.
  • Well said Pauljoecoe. I swapped to them, and haven't looked back. Think they're brilliant and would recommend them very highly :) Everything (Direct debit transfers etc) were smoothly done and their customer services is second to none.

Another huge thumbs up for First Direct.

Moved to them 2 years ago to take up my first mortgage and they have been absolutely fantastic since - how refreshing to call the main number and get straight through to a human being in the UK...!

I even managed to mess up my initial deposits to qualify for the £100 bonus. One quick call to check if that was indeed the case and they gave it to me anyway. How many banks/building societies would do that?

Noh, do you have a first direct morgage? This is what I want to do but dont want to be charged £10 a month for the pleasure! The conditions seem to state that you must pay in min £1500 a month OR hold an additional product, which includes mortgages. But they have given me the impression on the phone that I have to switch all my banking to first direct.

Can anyone shed any light? Thanks
