NVQ2 in Health and Social Care.

Hi all

I am looking for some information, if anybody can help me that would be great.

I started as a care worker in October 2010 and I really enjoy the job. Part of the appeal of the company i work for is that they say they would put me through my NVQ2 free of charge. Nearly 4 months later I have found they are not going to do this because I already have a degree and I am not eligible!!

I have heard this qualification is going to become compulsory in the future anyway. Do you think my company is right......or are they just being tight or do you think it might be time to jump ship to another company who would value my hard work and put me through this qualification?

Thanks
Loubie x

    hello
nvqs are going from hsc and being relpaced (as of now) with diplomas in hsc-check out the skills for care website for info on the new framework called QCF (qulifications and credit framework)
those undertaking an nvq will be allowed to complete and they will remain an equivalent under the new system
with regard to funding-some nvq providers pull their funding down from sources that do have conditions ie free if people have less than 5 gcses etc-so your company would be right in saying the free funding probably didnt stertch to you
although nvqs are going the new social care standards say staff must be 'suitably' qualified which is a bit vague, but we expect the regulators from CQC will want to see staff wiith the new diploma
as its new the funding status is not decided yet, but in the current climate all funding will be reduced-but any GOOD provider of social care would want to be sure their staff team was competent to do the job so ultimatley move to a provider whi will invest in you if your current provider wont

The company have led you to believe that they were going to be funding your NVQ when, in fact, they were going to access funding from elsewhere, which was based on your not already having a qualification at this level.

I would certainly consider moving companies, checking first (in writing) that they will give you this training, despite your being a graduate.
