maturing endowment policy

Not sure what to do at all. Endowment policy is maturing next week but husband and I have divorced and hes not interested in the money or helping me to get the money. Obviously Standard Life requires his say so to release the money (into the same account its been paid out of for 20 years) but he has moved on and isnt interested. What can I do?

Any reason why your solicitor didnt sort this out when you divorced? Normally the endowment is classed as an asset with value and its decided who gets it. Once decided, the policy is then assigned to that individual (forms which change ownership). From what you say, this didn't happen. So, you may wish to contact the solicitor for advice on this as they have to take some responsibility for not correctly fulfilling the divorce settlement requirements. They may also provide you help on your options.

You could forge the ex-'s signature.

  • Why is he not interested? Is he so rich that he doesn't need the money?

When I surrendered my SL policy, no signatures were required. I just phoned them - but then, mine was in my sole name. Have they said they need his consent?

Agreed, pretty much a routine thing at divorce and a serious oversight if the solicitor simply overlooked it.
  • Not sure why it wasnt dealt with at divorce. We hadnt planned on divorcing although we were apart. Ex was never interested in the money as I was the one who always paid it so he said it was mine, even tho in joint names. I dont mind sharing it as I do believe that with it being in both our names that he is entitled to half. But now he has moved on with his life, doesnt stay near and isnt answering his phone or mail. Standard Life just want his say so to put the money into the account so it would just be a quick phone call for him. Looks like I'm going to have the hassle of solicitors, which I didnt want to do.
Thank you to everyone that has replied. It has helped
