Good morning,
Wonder if anyone can help me. Does anyone know how I can dye my hair bright red (Rihanna style), without damaging my locks
)
And does anyone have any suggestions for a dye please?
Thanks in advance,
Hayley

Hiya,
I currently have a dark reddy colour in my hair, it was alot brighter- but has faded. Does the XXL dye over darker hair?

I swear by La Riche Directions in Poppy Red or Pillerbox Red. I use Jerome Russell B Blonde to bleach it first.
You can buy it online or in "alternative" shops
edit: this is how red it wasThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hiya,
I ordered the pre-lightener by La Riche of this, and I have ordered this is poppy red, did the blonde ruin your hair? Did any fall out?
Thanks chick

Just to add a note (been dying my hair red for the past 15 years!).
Lightening your hair to get a bright red will to some respect damage it. But there are ways you can help your hair after you have done this- many things damage hair: hair dryers, striaghteners, hair extentions, curling tongs...etc etc etc infact most things cause damage!
When you have dyed your hair red, remember that it will fade fast- all reds do, its to do with the type of chemical the red colour is and how large the particles are and that they don't bond well with hair (a hair technologist tutor told me this--as a hair model not as a hair student!) For that reason I'd recommend keeping some of the colour (the colour, not the peroxide) and mixing it with your shampoo so at each wash you have a depositing colour- or just buy a colour depositing shampoo- thought this may be harder if your going for the above colour.
Once a week, use a deep conditioning masque, leave in on dampened hair for 20 minutes plus, (you need it damp to activate the masque, the water is what makes it work).
If your hair breaks mid strand (not from the roots) it could be due to a lack of protein in the hair. Hair is dead, its no good running to down the tuna, eggs and meat so you need to apply it topicly. Try to use a protein masque once a month in addition to the masque mentioned above or whatever is suggested on the back of the bottle. Two options that spring to mind are the Joico K-Pak and the Aphogee 2-Step Protein masque, you really need to read the instructions on these carefully and not over do them as they can cause damage.
I have to say the first two times you do these you notice little difference but after the third time it really shows. Same with the weekly masques.
Try to lay of the heat, weather its from straighteners or hot water when your hair has been lightened as this is when its very weak. Heat makes it weaker and then causes damage.0 -

I used exactly the same method when I did mine last year - was the same shade of red too. Bought it on eBay about £2.99 a pot........I'd recommend keeping some of the colour (the colour, not the peroxide) and mixing it with your shampoo so at each wash you have a depositing colour....
I did this and it really does help keep the colour stronger for longer0
