I think I would check to see how long the insurance will pay out for.....although I don't see how you can claim to unemployed when in Uni full time.
The only way I can suggest is by taking in lodgers (fellow students?) to help with mortgage payments and the wonderful student loans together careful budgeting and perhaps an evening job.
I am curious though as to what has been said to you to suggest the interviewers are being racist......tbh I would have thought you had an advantage as you then 'ticked' the company's diversity box.2014 Target;

Are you a member of BNP? or EDL?
When somebody from ethnic minority speaks with a british accent, on CV it also states that they have been educated in the UK and also worked for other companies why would they then ask these questions apart from intimidation?
Whether you're from an ethnic minority or not, one's standard of written English is always going to be important.0 -
It's not racism, employers are legally required to check everone's right to work, no matter what colour, accent, background, education etc. We ask everyone to confirm their nationality at interview, and I mean everyone, and then if they are not a UK/EEC citizen we ask what visa they have.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Do you have a big old chip on your shoulder?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I only feel like this because after being asked at interviews about my ethnic background and race despite being born and brought up in England and surprise surprise I dont get the job it says something.
I want the best possible chance of securing a suitable role as having 4 years of IT experience as well as IT professional qualifications still does not help me. Most of the IT jobs want a degree as well as experience so I am finding it quite difficult plus with me being from a ethnic minority this will make things even harder in this competitive market.
maybe your finding it hard because you dont have the degree you need and they hire someone that doesNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -

I have no issue with being asked about my nationality as this is already stated on my CV and answered on application forms, however the line is crossed when asked about my parents background, question of ones beliefs and which cricket team I would support if pakistan were playing england.
I have received the answer I was seeking regarding the final year of a degree to top up my existing qualification0 -
Remember that although you would lose your entitlement to JSA if you study full-time, you could probably get some support in the form of student loans/bursaries, which would help things. You could also look to find part-time work, if you were willing to be flexible about what you did (eg I worked as a part-time cleaner when I was in my final year of uni - always seem to be lots of cleaning jobs around!). Maybe with IT skills you could also do some freelance work related to this?0
