It depends what paper it is, if it is non absorbent just wipe it off.

If not I would try and dampen a small patch and try a dry toothbrush on it (carefully).
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Bless him, he was in creative mode ;):D

Toothpaste can set rock hard and that is why it can be utilised as a hole filler when you've run out of polyfiller stuff on small holes!

But, it's not the end of the world. You'll need a damp cloth (not wet, or it will 'lift' the paper) and a bit of patience ;) Just keep wiping, rinsing and wringing your cloth and yet more wiping. Have faith, it *will* come off! You don't want to use anything to astringent because you can damage the wallpaper. If you have any sugar soap (the stuff decorators use to cleanse the wall before painting/wallpapering) a mild solution of that, on a well wrung out cloth will work well too. The real secret is in using a *damp* cloth, not a wet one. And as I said earlier, lots of patience ;):)

If you are going to try with a dry toothbrush (personally, I wouldn't) ... no matter how 'carefully' ... make sure that it is a SOFT bristle toothbrush!!! The bristles will wear the paper. Anyone who has ever tried making transfers from a glossy mag and transparent packing tape will know precisely what I mean!!!!
