Any details like a governing body, would probably be on the back of the licence or on it's covering letter.
Write to them and send it recorded delivery and then ignore their pestering letters. (just double check your licence has all the correct details on it first though)

  • Details of how to complain are cleverly hidden on the website, the link to the PDF document is here http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/aboutus/abouttvlicensing.jsp
Although I wouldn't hold any many hopes of a response, so keep complaining till you get to the top. If one of the local idiots comes round to inspect your licence don't speak to them or let them, don't sign anything. Even if you have a licence they will try and trick you into signing one of their confessions. They are a total waste of space and our money.

    Wow, de-ya-vu
We had this when we rented for 3.5 years. The address was listed differently, depending on which utilities company we called. The TV license we held had the house name on, and the letters we received had the house number on.
I lost count of the times i rang and wrote saying we paid direct debit, and could they check. Each time they confirmed it was their mistake, and i had a valid license.
And again i would recieve letters saying we are in your area, you can't escape. I wrote in the end saying come round for a cupper if you want when you are in the area, i don't care any more. Here is my details, stuff off.

This still got me no-where, although no-one ever came round. The only reason it all ended is because we moved.

I wouldn't worry or waste your time anymore. If you have a valid license if they should turn up on your door, you have nothing to worry about.

PS. No wonder our license fee is so high - it's paying for all these stupid letters, and morons who answer the phone, but cut you off!!!!!
    What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
    Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave
  • As others have said I really wouldn't worry too much about this. The best thing for you to do is to send them a letter (recorded) stating the situation and include a photocopy of your licence. Ask for them to respond acknowledging that you do have a licence. I really wouldn't waste any more of your money phoning them up and a letter will get your point across much better.

I'd then ignore any further letters from them saying that you've not got a licence. If anyone else from TV licencing comes round, show them your licence, but like someone else said, do not let them in or sign anything at all. They are a crafty bunch and have been known to make up fradulent statements.

If you google for TV Licencing you will find many websites that have more useful advice as to what can be done in the this situation.

Personally I'm just glad we got rid of TV over a year ago, surprisingly we've not heard a peep from them since, I was expecting to get at least 1 threatening letter a month.

Tip - a TV licence fits in one of those cheap 'clic-fit' photo frames nicely & looks lovely in the hall (where you can see it clearly fron the door of course)
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

If your licenced just ignore it, I get them but we have a TV licence in someone elses name in the house. I just stick them in the recycle bin, if they come around I can show them the licence.

Mum get's them too at their old house (trying to sell) she's given up ringing them every month, just says if they come around she'll just show them around the empty house to prove there's no TV.

Yep, if you have a TV license its best to ignore them. Let them waste their money by sending someone round to check rather than you having to phone them only for them to continually mess up.
Ive had 3 reminders recently all which threatened fines etc as they claim that there is no tv license listed at my address in my name.
Well, thats because its in my partners name and we pay by direct debit each month!!!

So much for them knowing who has and who hasnt a TV license!!
They dont even know their !!!! from their elbow!!!!
  • Don't worry too much. You have a licence so they will not be able to actually do anything to you!

    Try to relax.
