Alternative to baked Camembert?

Good morn!

I'm having friends over on Sunday and usually serve a baked Camembert with an onion relish. The only thing is - I love the texture, the goo but I can't stand the soapy taste! Can anyone recommend a cheese that can be baked and will come out gooey but has a milder taste?

Ta muchly :D

Would think you could do this with a round of Brie as well, although it could be quite large :D
  • I've never found baked Camembert to be spoapy ;) How about trying Pont l'Eveque?

Thanks both! I'll have a looksee round the shops in a bit. I am quite finnicky with cheese. My favourite is mature cheddar, so you can see why Camembert could be a stretch for me :rotfl:

Pont l'Eveque definitely comes into the smelly French cheese category. I love it but be aware that if it is very ripe you may not want it in your fridge! Bought a load of cheeses back from a French trip once and not having a freezer many of them ended up being stored on the windowsill of the downstairs lavatory with the window open till we got around to eating them!

 Didn't buy any today, taking that into account, I'll buy it on the day!
  • I would go with brie, creamy and not too strong if you aren't into the more 'soapy' cheeses.

Brie or a nice goats cheese - but, I dont find a good Camembert soapy! try a different make hun. or ask at the cheese counter for a nice melting cheese.
