Self employed and living with parents. Rent as an expense?

in Cutting tax
Hello everyone,
I've been self employed for three years now, and during that time I'm still living with my parents (very long story!). I pay rent every month, around £300, and every time I come to do my self assessment it really bugs me that I can't put this down as an expense. I mean, the bottom line is that's £3600 a year.
My room is basically my office plus a bed, I use it to run my business as a web designer. Is there any way I'll ever be able to put this down as an expense when I file my tax return?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I've looked around and can't find another topic along the same lines.
Thanks

You won't be able to put down the full cost, but you can probably have a proportion of it allowed.
Also, if you're paying £300 a month for an office with a bed, you're either in central London or your parents are screwing you finincially.0 -
i used to pay £90 a week when i was makeing £270 pw so thats £390 a month for 15mile outside of glasgow.
but thats what happens when your dads skint. If you want to get with me there's some things you got to know,.

I have a feeling that this "rent" is "all found" or is there a supplement for washing, food, council tax, parking, utilities, even broadband?0

i also read somewhere that if you claim a room as an office as a tax expense, you may be laible for a proportion of the council tax as business council tax on that room. you can claim for heat and light though.0
