How do you stop pencil eyeliner from smudging?

Mine always gives me panda eyes no matter how I put it on and it also runs when I get hot. Has anyone got any tips or recommendations?

So does mine - never manages to look the way it does on tv stars etc!! - there are some quite good tutorials on you tube if you take the time to flick through a few.

I use gel eyeliner only one doesnt smudge on me. x

it might be down to "oily lids" you could dust a translusent powder over it or
use a primer

For top eyelid use either a gel or liquid (gel is better for beginners), or if you use a pencil, use a primer first and set the liner with a shadow (do it for gel too).
For bottom - just use a dark shadow along the lashline.
For waterline - invest in a good liner. I recommend Urban Decay 24/7 liners. They're amazing, come in loads of colours and are so creamy and gorgeous.

I use a little facepowder on top to "set" the eyeliner (I use a black kohl pencil one) and that works.

Don't forget to put some powder on before the eyeliner too - or the base will be too oily (esp if you use eye cream or foundation under your eyes!) Just be careful not to use too much.

and then mascara last - to cover any powder on your eyelashes

Smashbox gel one doesn't budge on me and I have really oily hot eyes - cant keep mascara on

MAC eye-pencils don't smudge nor do Clinique.

OP, thanks for starting this post, and thanks to everyone who has replied, I never get a good result with eyeliner so i'm off to spend some money on your suggestions !
