Rome wasn't built in a day

Options
Don't know if anyone is watching this on channel 4
6 modern day builders have six months to build a Roman villa only using tools used at that time.
Has been really good and you can catch it on the plus channel or on 4od
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I was watching it too. Fascinating stuff. I will be watching it from now on. My type of programme!

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

  • That sounds really good - thanks! I hardly ever watch tv, but I'll see if I can pick this up on 4od this weekend.

I watched the second half of it. I couldn't decide at first whether it was informative or silly. But by the end I think I liked it. I'll probably watch it next week.

I always find it fascinating that the Romans developed technology that after the fall of Rome wasnt developed/rediscovered until the Victorians.... amazing civilisation (though not without its faults!)
  • Do you think those builders had ANY idea of what they were getting themselves into?

I sorta got the feeling they thought the blocks would be pre-cut and the tools/carts would be on hand for them??
    And the longer days?

OH used to be an architect - so I'll be watching this whether I like it or not :rotfl:

    Loved it!

Checked out the house my parents built today - the birds flew east to west so they built it in the right spot ;-)
  • We watched this yesterday and loved it :j

As DS pointed out "Rome wasn;t built by 6 blokes, either" :rotfl:

  • I don't think that human nature has changed since Roman times. The client probably wants it built yesterday!!! They did have building contractors in those days, but what people forget that they used slaves to do all the bone breaking jobs, such as making the mortar, and breaking up the sandstone in the quarries etc, etc. Theyonly paid craftsmen to do the fancy stuff such as mosaic work, and the painting of the frescos
