Competition Ideas

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to get together a competition to encourage take up of my site, I have a question of all regular commpers as to what comp format you prefer. I run a small site so prizes are not going to be spectacular so with this in mind.

Dou you think that comps such as the handbag where prizes are given each day.
Or would you prefer to roll the prizes together in one bigger prize.

Also

Do you think people would mind a comp where you have to register for the site (although this would be free)

Also should I go for an easy standard draw format or introduce a skill element such as a skill etc.

I would be greatful for your thoughts

i tend to do quite a few comps and nobody minds usually registering for a newsletter to be in with a chance or you could link it in with registering for the email to be able to enter email each time as most sites do it to get the web traffic and hopefully extra custom in the long term if they nosy round the site as well.

i have daily ones i do and im guessing as im no techie that if people are coming to the site everyday to enter the daily draw wouldnt that put you higher up on google with all the visitors:confused:

you would prob get more entrants not doing a tiebreaker (with tiebraker would be time consuming as means reading threw every entry i guess) i would suggest like a lot of sites you do questions where the answers are in your site which encourages people to have a look round as quite a few i notice do now

  • If you want to encourage people to look round your site, the competitions where you have to find 3 items 'hidden' within your site to enter are good.

The entrant has to click on the item and when they've found all three they get to enter the comp. I don't know how easy/difficult this will be to program into your site, but is an interesting approach for both you and your customer.
    never knowingly underwhelmed.

or how about the ones where the answer to the question is to guess the price of a particular item you're selling (if you are selling anything).

I think that lots of regular small prizes are better than one big prize. That way people will come back to your site more regularly to see if you've got a new comp. Also, put the comp on a different page every time to encourage people to browse through.

The problem with doing a comp on your site is that people really arnt interested in what the site is about. They are only interested in winning a freebie. You'll find the compers will never return again after the comp is closed.
