wedding cake stands?

My nan is making our wedding cake - lovely nan that she is. We're being a bit unusual and having three different cakes: a carrot cake, chocolate cake and lemon cake. She's doing them square.
I'm supposed to be hiring/getting a cake stand though... what kind of stand should I get for these cakes? They'll be softer than normal wedding cake I imagine so I wouldn't like to balance the tiers on pillars.... but the other stands I've seen all have plastic bits in the middle to hold the next tier up.
Any advice would be very useful!

Do you want the cakes on top of each other? If you do, you'll have to use dowel rods to support it (a stick you put through the cake below to support the cake above so it's not resting on only cake..if that makes sense!). With lighter cakes (rather than a dense fruit cake) I would try to go for seperate stands as suggested by nunnygirl. A friend of mine used glass vases upside down with flowers inside as cake stands, it looked lovely!

Don't forget the cakes will be on a cakeboard when decorated and on the standNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0
