shuld my husband get a mortgage before or after I go bankrupt.

I have been looking at what to do about my negative equity/debts and I am thinking bankruptcy might be the best road to go down, we currently live in a flat in my name but we are struggling to keep up with all the charge/rent and mortgage. The issue I have got is that my husband is looking to buy a house off a relative for us all to live in, the mortgage on this would be a lot less than we currently pay. So, would going bankrupt before be better? I worried that if i made myself bankrupt after he bought the house they might look at it as an asset even though its not really anything to do with me.
Would the courts want to see my husbands bank details when looking into me going bankrupt?
Thanks to all that can advise.
