Leaving Partner's Home

Hi, I have been co-habiting with my partner in his home for 18 months, but we have now got to a point where the relationship is over and I need to move out.

I have enough put by to cover the cost of initial moving/deposit costs on a private rental but need to know what benefits I could be entitled to?

I will be living alone, I am 48 years old, I work 17.5 hours a week and bring home approx £420 per month. I know I will be entitled to claim Housing Benefit and Council tax benefit, but would I be entitled to anything else?

I have tried the 'Entitled To' calculator but no other benefits seem to be payable.

Thank you in advance!

Carrie

At you age, I think WTC requires you to work 30 hours minimum a week.

You have to be working for a minimum of 30 hours to claim WTC, unless you're a lone parent or disabled.
  • Yes last time I looked into it I had to be working at least 30 hours a week to qualify for working tax credit. I was thinking maybe income support?

Why not just get a full time job? Problem solved.
  • Thank you Gleeful - it has taken me a year to get a part-time job, even though I was looking for full time. In case you hadn't noticed there is a bit of a recession out there. But I am sure your comment will help me immensely.

and she isnt eligable for IS full stop unless shes planning on getting pregnant and being a single mother, then she would be entitled after the birth which would be almost impossible at her age.

Or maybe she could claim carers allowance for looking after someone entitled to M/HRC DLA, she could then claim IS on that basis.

The other criterias is even less likely that the two above.
